457 Health Insurance
457 Visa Insurance provides “Medicare Equivalent” Health Insurance. Even if you have travel insurance, you will still need to apply for a health insurance as many of the things that are not covered by travel insurance are required in the case of 457 Health Insurance.
Medicare Equivalent health insurance is compulsory for 457 Visa Holders. If you don’t have a reciprocal Medicare card, you need to take Medicare cover.
Once granted a 457 Visa typically lasts for 4 years.
Reciprocal Medicare
Applicants who are from either Ireland or Sweden are not required to provide their passport along with 457 Health Insurance when applying for the visa, irrespective of whether they are in Australia or not.
Moreover, these countries also offer Reciprocal Medicare, however, with restriction

For the countries listed in the table above, 457 health insurance is not required if the benefactor is stationed in Australia at the time of filling visa application.
For those who are not in Australia at that time, will need 457 Health Insurance for a few months (generally 1-2 months) till the time they are in that country.
Worth noting is that, 457 visa cannot be granted unless the applicant is holding a valid Medicare card.
