How Long Can I Stay?
International students who have completed 2 years of study in Australia are eligible for a Temporary Graduate Visa. Depending upon your education and the type of employment that you’re seeking, a Subclass-485 visa in Australia allows you to stay anywhere between 18 months to 4 years in the country. If you’re a Hong Kong passport holder, you can even live here for up to 5 years. Till the time your visa is valid, you and your family can work, study and travel in Australia.
About Temporary Graduate (subclass-485) Visa Australia
Subclass-485 has two streams:
- Graduate Work stream
- Post Study Work Arrangements
Graduate Work Stream:
Graduate Work Stream is applicable for an international student who has graduated from an institute or university in Australia. The course duration must be more than 2 years and should be related to an occupation listed on the Skilled Occupation List.
Eligibility Criteria:
- You must be younger than 50
- You must be in Australia while filling the visa application
- You must have one of the following visas: student visa (subclass 572,573 or 574), a bridging visa (Bridging A or B), or a substantive visa (excluding 570, 571, 575 or 576)
- You’re proficient in English and have completed one of the listed English competency tests
- You have either a proof of skills assessment or have applied for a skill assessment for the nominated occupation.
- You have a valid health insurance
- Post-study work arrangements:
Post-study Work Stream is applicable for an international student who has completed his postgraduate or doctoral degree from an institute or university in Australia, irrespective of the course type. The purpose of this visa is to allow international students to spend more time in Australia so that they can utilise their recently gained knowledge in gaining some practical work experience.
Eligibility Criteria:
- You must be younger than 50
- You must be in Australia while filling the visa application
- You’re proficient in English and have completed one of the listed English competency tests.
- Your first student visa was granted after 5 Nov 2011.
- You have a valid health insurance
